Hi everybody, I am Kris Stokes from Custom Fitness Personal Training Studio and I think it’s about time to tune out the noise. Wouldn’t you agree? There is just so much noise going on through all this chaos that we are surrounded by, immersed in and just berated with day after day lately. I don’t know about you, but that noise starts to kind of creep inside of me and become a very negative source of energy. So I start to kind of confine myself to myself instead of reaching out and being the better version of myself. So I want to give you some tips today on how you can start to cut through that noise and find your best positive self and the positive side to all of this. I know that’s hard to say that there’s a positive side to anything that’s going on right now, but there truly is.

Number one, we’re blessed that this is happening in a day and age where we have constant communication ability, where we can be on videos or on Skype with our loved ones or on phone calls. If you think about the pandemics of years ago, they didn’t have those options. They could write a letter, but it might not get to where it needed to be. So we have a lot of blessing in that area. But for me, in my house, tuning out the noise means turning off social media, turning off the news, turning off the outside world at least for a few hours each day just to kind of get myself recentered and refocused.

I also use those breathing techniques that we talked about the other day to help to recenter and to refocus my energy on what’s most important because I’ve found through this as a mom that sometimes that noise starts to take away my ability to level on and play with my kids, to be with them fully and be present in the moment. So what I want to do is just take this time if we are at home together, that we take this time to be together instead of just being in the same place.

So what we’ve done this week for our little spring break that was obviously thwarted from our original plans was my kids and I had a cooking camp this week. My oldest loves to cook. It’s one of her favorite things to do and so we had a cooking camp. But what was that cooking camp for? Well it was a meal prep. I had been out of town last weekend. I came back in. I found as much food as I could that we could use because we do have a lot of food allergies in our house, so we have to be cautious with that. But the problem is most of the foods that we eat are fresh foods and so I thought, well, there is a possibility that produce could be a limited supply soon. There is a possibility that we might not be able to get certain meats or whatever pieces of these meals.

So we spent the week cooking together and putting together some meals, cooking up vegetables and eggs and things like that so that we could have them in the freezer and prepared to go just in case. What it did for me was gave me peace of mind, cut out some of the noise, saying that we wouldn’t have enough. What it did for the kids was it gave them time with mom to cook and to be creative and do the things that they wanted to do. So whether it was cooking for meals or it was making gummies out of their liquid vitamins, we were putting things together and working together and that really was a great time this week. Next week I believe that we’re going to continue that with some sewing lessons. They’ve been working on sewing since last semester and so we’ll be sewing together and creating so that we can hopefully send things to loved ones to let them know that we’re thinking about them and things that they could use to help them.

So in the noise, we just want to find kind of that way to center ourselves into being at peace again and part of that is just tuning out the outside world just for a little bit. I’m not saying ignore it. There’s a lot going on that we need to know about and day by day things are changing. But if you can kind of set a schedule of time to where you’re focused on that just for a little time to get the details that you need and then turn it off, and that way then you can move through the rest of your day in a spirit of joy, in a better mindset. It’s called moving through a powerful state of being. There’s powerful and there’s primal. Primal are the things that make you feel worse, like anxiety and fear and frustration, whereas powerful states of being are things like happiness and joy and peace.
So what we want to do is we want to be able to live from that side, look at the blessings that we have, the fact that we’re being able to work from home, possibly, the fact that we’re being able to spend more time with our families, hopefully immersed in our families instead of just being present beside them. The fact that maybe the things we took for granted before are coming to light, that we shouldn’t be taking them for granted. Maybe we start to appreciate them a little bit more, even if it’s something as little as toilet paper, whatever that may be for you.

But just finding that moment of peace, using those breath work techniques to help, and really honestly, I highly recommend that if you’re going to schedule that time in your day to find out what’s going on in the outside world, that it’s not right before bed because that just leads to a poor night’s sleep and right now we need sleep more than anything. We need sleep, we need good food, we need to exercise. We need to get our bodies as healthy as we can so that we can fend off anything coming at us and that’s honestly the best way to do it. So whether you are at home doing your thing or you’re out and about doing your thing, just making sure that we’re getting the exercise that we need, we’re getting the nutrition that we need, we’re getting the sleep that we need and we’re helping our bodies to be in a calm state so that we can work from a place of power rather than primal instinct.
