Hi guys,  Kris from Custom Fitness here, your Amarillo personal trainer. Today we’re going to be talking about that last 10 pounds. If you have any questions about today’s blog, then please give us a call at (806)-322-3188

Do you still have that last 10 pounds to lose? You’ve probably been working on it for five or more years, or yo-yoing with it where you lose it, gain it back, and the cycle repeats.

You might be noticing that things aren’t working the way that they used to in your 20s and 30s. Your body may not be responding to the same things in the same way to give you the results that you’re wanting. That can be really frustrating right?

I had a client come in not too long ago to talk to me, and I was explaining that exact same scenario of how age starts to change things. People need to know that there are others out there that experience this too.

I’ve had this happen a lot where people will come in and tell me that they have been trying to lose this weight for (in the most extreme case) ten to fifteen years. During that time period they just could not get those pounds to drop. They tried cleanses, paleo, keto, they tried just about everything but couldn’t keep the weight off. Even if they did manage to lose most of it, it always came back. They couldn’t figure out where they were going wrong.

So this person explained to me their current diet plan. They had been using this diet plan for many years and it always worked before but it just wouldn’t work to get off those last ten pounds.

Well, I can tell you from experience that if you’re on a diet plan that you’ve been using for years, and you still have ten pounds to lose, then there’s something you need to change. If you’ve been doing the same thing consistently over time, it’s really quite crazy to expect different results from doing the same thing.

So remember that if your goal is to change and get results from what you’re doing, then you have to stay consistent with change. You have to rotate and find the right thing that works for you in the right moment.

Another story i have is of a client that worked with us that had been trying to lose about ten pounds for about ten years. She exercised all of the time, she ate clean, counted her macros, and even helped her friends and family to lose weight, but she just couldn’t seem to lose that ten pounds.

She came over to us, and we were able to add that little shock factor into her nutrition plan. We made things simpler than what they were, we had her ease off of her workouts and changed up what she was doing to make it more beneficial to her body.

Within three weeks she lost that ten pounds. Two and a half to two years later now, and she has kept those ten pounds off. She actually lost some more and kept that off too! She hasn’t regained any of the weight because she learned a different way to do things- something that will support her body more.

You have to remember that your body adapts to things whether it’s a challenge or a circumstance, whatever it may be our body adapts and it takes hold of how to live that new life.

So each time that you gain fat, it then has to adjust the metabolism to that new life. Each time that you burn off fat or build muscle, it has to adjust in order to live that life as well. So the body constantly adapts and changes.

And you have to understand that as you age, the nutritional needs of the body will change. Even if everything else stays the same, your nutritional needs will still change. So you have to be sure that you’re addressing those needs and not just thinking about what’s worked in the past and trying to implement that.

I understand how that can be a huge frustration. Especially as we females age, our hormones start to do crazy things and that makes things even harder. What you have done in the past doesn’t work because the hormones have to be receptive, they have to flow in channel. If they aren’t working properly, then your body can’t do anything else, it’s really in survival mode. And so a lot of times we don’t pay attention to that side and see that we have a lot of internal chaos going on inside.

If we can calm that internal chaos, then we can help the body to sustain more of a thriving environment where it can start to do those extra things that you want to do like lose weight and increase your metabolism.

Another thing that you need to think about is that nutrition is really 70-80% of the battle. So if you’re constantly crash dieting or yo-yoing, you’ll be constantly throwing off that internal system, you’ll create that chaotic state. And it could possibly make you lose weight at first, but usually that’s inflammation and water weight and it’s not going to be consistent over time.

That’s where our clients come in for a detox style program. They go through that detox and lose water weight and inflammation, but then we teach them how to adapt that for their bodies so they can have a lifetime of success.

As a personal trainer in Amarillo, that is really one of my big passions in life to be able to help people beyond the immediate need. That way it can become a lifestyle change instead of a constant reaching out for new information or the next flashy thing.

Just remember that the new flashy thing is always a here today and gone tomorrow thing. There is no consistency to it and your body needs consistency. The body needs variety as well, but it needs that variety consistently over time. It needs the right nutrition, exercise, sleep… it needs a lot of things to work together in order to get you to where you want to be.

So we want to make sure that if you still have that extra weight to lose, and you know that you’re working really hard towards it but you’re going crazy trying get that weight off, then you need to call us.
