Hi guys,  Kris from Custom Fitness here, your Amarillo personal trainer. Today we’re going to be talking about how to break the cycle of complacency. If you have any questions about today’s blog, then please give us a call at (806)-322-3188

Have you ever noticed how human nature leads to the path of least resistance? If we’re not working against human nature, then we’re just going with the flow.

Typically, people that decide that it’s time to change their bodies really want a magic solution. They want the easiest, quickest way to results. They want results that come from, honestly, having to put your heart and soul into.

I have people come in to talk with me with pictures from magazines showing me exactly what they want to look like. But first off, those magazines are photoshopped. And second, the people that are in the magazines have worked really, really hard to look the way they do. They didn’t do a fad shake or pills, they worked their tails off and put the focus of everything that they need into that work. Now, they also have coaches to lead and motivate them, but body transformation really starts in the kitchen.

So if you think that you’re going to get that six pack you want just from workouts, i’m sorry to tell you but it’s not going to happen. You really have to get on board with nutrition first. That’s 70-80% of the puzzle, and it doesn’t end with adding in a shake. You need real nutrition. If you do supplements and shakes but then go out and have a greasy hamburger, then there’s a problem. Your body is not going to change.

So when was the last time that you brought in a new meal in your meal plan? A lot of the time you get stuck in this rut where you just have the same food over and over again. It’s nice to have things that you’re comfortable with, but if you don’t have variety, then your body isn’t going to change.

So stepping away from new meals, when is the last time you tried a new food? Maybe something that you thought you wouldn’t like, or something that you didn’t like as a kid? I sometimes will try a food that I used to not have a taste for, and now years later it starts to grow on me.

So adding some variety to what you’re doing each day is really important. I recommend adding a new meal in every other week or so, and keep track of the ones that you really liked. It’s really just about finding your taste and preferences.

So it’s really time to break out of that realm of complacency, and start with a set goal. Think about that goal of what you want physically, health wise, mentally, spiritually. Think about what you really want and what direction you want to go in. Then I want you to write it down. That way it’s solidified. If the goal just lives in your mind, then it’s subject to change. So if you write it down where you can see it everyday, it will make a big difference.

Now that your goal is written down, take that goal into account. Take some time to either make a solid plan to how you’re going to reach your goal, or reach out to a professional to get a solid plan to how you’re going to reach your goal. The purpose of making a goal is to actually get there. Don’t pick a goal and then decide in your mind that you’ll never reach it. Instead take that goal and put one foot in front of another.

Yes, you’re going to slip and fall, but if you keep moving forward you can’t fail. As long as you’re trying and pushing forward then you will one day get there.

As a personal trainer in Amarillo, I always tell people at my studio that everyday is a new day. Each day is the first day of the rest of your life. If you messed up yesterday, big deal! We’ll just sit down and make a new plan on how we’ll go forward from there. What can we do to make today better so that we can move one step closer to your goal?

Goals aren’t achieved in a single bound, or a few bounds, but thousands of tiny steps moving forward.

So to take it back to nutrition, you want to put some variety in your food. And the way to do that is by eating the rainbow. Think everyday about trying to get every color of the rainbow in, then that means you’re going to be getting a lot of fruits and veggies in.

Of course you want to be sure that you have the balance between vegetables, protein, and healthy fat. You also want to make sure that you have the right support, and that you have the right system going.

Because you can do this all on your own. There is no shortage of information out there, especially on the internet. You can do it on your own, but between the information overload, work, and everything in between it’s a hard road to walk. Sometimes it’s the challenge of trying to do it all on your own that discourages people from getting to that goal.

So if you’ve struggled in the past with trying to put together your own plan, then perhaps look at the more simplified route and hire a professional. That where places like Custom Fitness come in.

We actually work as a team for each client to customize a nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle modification plan. That all goes together, and we make sure that it fits to wherever you are starting from.
