Hi guys,  Kris from Custom Fitness here, your Amarillo personal trainer. Today we’re going to be continuing out talk about the law of control and how it is seriously messing up your life. This is the second part in a three part series, so be on the lookout for part three coming soon. And if you have any questions about today’s blog, then please give us a call at (806)-322-3188

Now, a client came in recently to discuss with me their nutritional past. And to honest, it wasn’t pretty. We sat down for thirty minutes and just went through what they had done. It was everything from calorie restriction to every last fad diet on the market.

However, over the past year they had been on a nutrient skewed diet where they weren’t getting a full balance of nutrients. And there was one of the three major macronutrients that was pretty much eliminated from their diet. So this person was furious that they weren’t able to lose weight on their diet. Their friends had lost weight on it, they had been hearing how great it was, they had been doing everything that they were supposed to be doing, but they just couldn’t seem to make it happen.

So we dug a little deeper. We started talking about sleep. I asked how that was going for them, it wasn’t going well. I asked about energy, and they told me that most of the day they were exhausted. Then I was asking about how things were going mentally and emotionally-how were they feeling during work, during exercise?

And as we got through it, there was more and more that came up with them not feeling great but they continued on this diet because they really believed that it was going to help them lose weight. They felt like they were in control of choosing, and they chose this diet, but they reached this point of brokeness where they went to get some help. So I helped.

We went through and discussed what changes might be necessary in order to reach their goals. However, I also had to give them a bit of a disclaimer along with it. I told the that they might not lose weight right away doing this.

What has happened is that they had taken their body to this chaotic, almost broken state internally and a lot of people don’t want to hear that. People want to hear that they can bounce from the point that they are at to the next point and the next, and they’ll see success.

And to go along with that, there is a problem with the kind of successes that we want to see. We want to see the outward changes more than the inward ones. We want to see it in the mirror, we want to see it in our weight, we want to see it in our clothes, and that is absolutely great successes to have. There is nothing wrong with wanting that, but what we have to look at first before anything else is our health and wellness. We have to understand that at a very basic level our body is here as a unit of transport for us to move, to be, and to live.

Every cell in us is living, so every cell in us needs to be taken care of just like you would a child or a pet. That’s why it is so important to put a little more emphasis on ourselves and our health.

So the disclaimer i had when I talked to this person is that she may not lose weight right away because their body would first have to heal itself. Their body had used up all of its stores, it had been missing out on all of the things that were cut out of her diet and needed to replenish it.

The body is very adaptive, so it can start to use other things, like your internal tissues, if you are not providing those nutrients from the outside. You need to give your body time to heal and time to rebalance so that it can find the place where it knows that it’s going to be fed the nutrients that it needs. If you do that then each cell is going to be getting every part of the puzzle that it needs, and then you will start to see the body do miraculous things on the outside. So if we can get healthy from the inside first, then all of those results will start to show on the outside.

But I say “will start to” because it takes time. The mindset of starting a diet or exercise plan and dropping weight like crazy usually doesn’t end up well. If it is a foundational plan that is building you for success after you’re done with it, then great! But if it’s just a crash diet or a workout until you puke type of program, then it’s not doing you any good.

You’ll go through one of these programs for four to six weeks and then you’ll stop, and then the train starts moving backwards and you end up where you don’t want to be. If you want real success then you have to expect that the change you want to make may not be in your control.

So i’m going to end part two here. In part two we’re going to be talking more about the law of control.
