So number three is one of the big ones. I’m a bit of a health nut (in case you couldn’t tell), and I want to make sure that with whatever I am doing that it’s going to benefit my health in the long term. I don’t want just a short term change that might just show in looks, I want to look at the long term.
So the big #3 for me is that whenever you are lacking 100% in nutrition when going through your diet, then you actually risk having long term damage. And you may not feel it today, you may not feel it in a year, but in a few years you are all of the sudden going to have something crash and burn within your body. When that happens you are going to be wondering what on earth caused that, and you’ll most likely be looking at the last few weeks or months, but really it is an accumulation of the last ten to fifteen years of your life of what you have been doing to your body. Whether you have been taking care of your body or have been abusing it is going to tell you where you’re going to be at in a few years.
So with that long term damage, this one area is one that I really like to talk to people about because a lot of people really don’t understand, and it’s that a lot of that damage is coming from your endocrine system.
Now, your endocrine system is composed of nine glands and over a hundred different hormones. So if I talk to people about hormones without explaining what’s going on, then a lot of the time they will just be thinking along the lines of progesterone, estrogen, testosterone–really just the sex hormones. However there are over a hundred different hormones in the body that influences every organ, every cell, and every single function of the body. So if you don’t have them working in proper order then they aren’t going to affect the body in the right way. It’s either going to be too little, too much, or too late to the show. So you want to make sure that the body is working correctly. By dieting, and yo-yo dieting, and doing all of these crazy things to the body you start to throw off the endocrine system.
This may not all be sounding like a huge deal right? But what are some big disorders that come from that area? Well, you have diabetes where the body cannot properly process glucose. Or you have hyperthyroidism where you start to slow down your metabolism. Or hyperglycemia, or iodine deficiency. Did you know that without iodine, your body actually cannot make enough iodine on its own so you have to consume iodine within your diet? That doesn’t mean that it has to come from iodized salt, there’s lots of ways to get it, especially if you’re wanting to go for some seaweed or kelp. But that within itself can lead to hypothyroidism, so you can end up with a lot of problems. And those things are typically not going to help your body to start to look and shape the way that you want it to.
So what do you do instead? Well, you start with finding a very foundational plan. I say that because some of these plans can get kind of crazy. When you are doing all of this crazy meal prep, or you’re having to try and incorporate all of these foods that you don’t understand, or you’re having to eat at home for every single meal, then you are going to have to learn to live life at the same time.
You are going to want to find that plan that is very foundational, a plan that you are sure will be something that you can realistically follow, and something where you can understand when and how it is okay to go off the path for a little bit and be able to come back. However, the biggest thing is that it has to be something that provides you with every nutrient that your body needs at every meal that you consume. So you want to make sure that it’s not just a hit or miss thing, but that you are actually ensuring the success of your body by providing this type of nutrition.

I believe that if you can do that then you’re going to life a much longer and happier life being well, than you ever would being sickly.
