Pregnancy

There’s nothing more exciting than finding out you’re expecting. But figuring out how to care for your body and your baby at the same time can feel overwhelming.

Prenatal training is essential. Most women know that exercising during pregnancy is safe (if you don’t, it is) 😊. The struggles come in knowing what you should and shouldn’t be doing, and what’s good for your baby.

Making sure you’re active is incredibly important before giving birth, and prenatal training can help you stay in shape or start an exercise program that’s right for you at this point in time

Care for yourself, care for your child and do all you can to live a healthy lifestyle both before and after your baby arrives.

As a pregnancy progresses, the body begins to undergo many changes in order to accommodate a growing baby. Prenatal training offers exercises that focus on posture, strength, flexibility and cardiovascular & muscle endurance, factors that are crucial for a healthy and comfortable pregnancy.

These workouts can be customized for the individual, too, allowing you to take part in the likes of Yoga and Pilates, all of which are designed with both you and your baby in mind. These workouts will also help manage your weight, remain low-risk and lower blood pressure levels.

Make your pregnancy more comfortable and start your child’s life off in the healthiest way possible with prenatal training alongside a complimentary nutritious diet plan.

Postpartum

When it comes to postpartum, there’s typically more to it than just jumping back in where you left off. Often after baby arrives we find that certain parts of our body (no matter how much our brain tells them to) either don’t look or work the way they should. Your body has been through a lot in the last many months and it’s time to give it the tools it needs to repair and rejuvenate itself.

Our certified corrective exercise specialists will take you from the birth of your baby back to the top of your game by addressing pregnancy specific issues such as diastasis, pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic misalignment, rib cage flare and posture as well as helping you work through any new aches or pains of motherhood (ie. low back pain, wrist pain, shoulder discomfort, headaches, neck aches and more).

You can even bring your little one to your workouts and have them close by your side. And if you’re having any baby specific discomforts, we can take a session just to go over things like loading and unloading or carrying your car seat to stop the pain from happening in the future.

“I would recommend her to anyone I know. Thanks so much, Kris!

I was first referred to Kris by a good friend when I became pregnant. This being my first baby, I was concerned about not being able to work out and gaining too much weight. I started seeing Kris at 15 weeks and am very glad I did!

The first and most important thing I can say about Kris is that she is very knowledgeable not only about the body, health, exercise, and wellness, but about pregnancy as well. Amarillo Fit Mamma was the perfect place for me to turn to as I was worried about what I can and can’t do while expecting. I have learned so much about pregnancy and the importance of eating healthy and exercising while pregnant. Many times I have come to Kris with questions about things that I have heard or read and typically she knows the answer and is able to explain things very well. If there is ever a time that she didn’t know the answer she was always very quick to research and find the best answer and get back to me. So far, at 32 weeks, Kris has been able to keep me feeling good and able to remain as active as possible. With Kris’s help I have been able to keep my weight on track and remain aware of the things that I eat to make sure my baby is getting the nourishment that he needs.

Kris has also been great about working around my schedule. My schedule varies week to week, but she is always great to work with me and get appointments scheduled that work for both of us. She is great at teaching the exercises and making sure the right form is used. The exercises she has given me throughout this pregnancy have been enough for me to still feel active but not pushing my growing body past what I think it can do. I also attend her pregnancy yoga class, which is great for stretching and relaxation.

My due date is April 30th and I already plan to continue with Kris after I have the baby and am released to exercise again. I am confident that she will be able to help me get back in shape in a healthy way. Kris is not only great at what she does, but she is kind, compassionate, and very easy to take instructions and constructive criticism from! I am very thankful I found Kris and am very grateful for her help through my first pregnancy”

FAQ

I am pregnant is this type of programming safe?

We have taken great care to ensure prenatal safety at Custom Fitness. We work alongside your obstetrician to make sure that your programming is safe and effective. We are trained and certified in prenatal exercise, postnatal exercise and postnatal recovery. As you begin your fitness journey during pregnancy, you’ll soon find that every month, every week and often every day feel different. We ensure that not only are you receiving safe exercises during this amazing time but also providing changes to your program as necessary during your pregnancy to make sure the exercises you are doing each workout fit with how you are feeling during that “moment” of your pregnancy.

Shouldn't pregnant women just do yoga and walk?

The idea of what is safe and what is necessary during pregnancy have changed several times throughout the years. Our team of fitness professionals follow ACOG’s guidlines for exercise during pregnancy which now state “Physical activity in all stages of life maintains and improves cardiorespiratory fitness, reduces the risk of obesity and associated comorbidities, and results in greater longevity. Physical activity in pregnancy has minimal risks and has been shown to benefit most women, although some modification to exercise routines may be necessary because of normal anatomic and physiologic changes and fetal requirements. Women with uncomplicated pregnancies should be encouraged to engage in aerobic and strength-conditioning exercises before, during, and after pregnancy.” We have been trained to modify exercise routines as stated above and while we do promote and encourage women to do yoga and walk during pregnancy, there is so much more available to help both mom and baby have a healthy pregnancy and a better start in life.

Do you offer nutrition plans for pregnancy?

When it comes to pregnancy, you want to do everything right. Our simplified food based nutrition planning will be perfect for your pregnancy. We use a balance, timing and portion focus that will help you to get all of the essential nutrients needed during pregnancy. It is not our goal to replace any of your doctor’s recommendations but rather to help you navigate the sea of information coming at you during your pregnancy and simplify the nutrition side of things for you. We also track your progress during pregnancy to ensure that you are gaining in the right areas and not overdoing things. We want you to be safe, healthy and happy!

I have children to take with me, do you have a playroom?

Yes! We have a children’s playroom that is provided free of charge to our clients. The toys kept in the playroom are focused ages 5 and under but even the older kiddos enjoy coming to visit. The playroom is connected to a closed circuit camera that displays in both of our workout rooms so you can see your child(ren) at all times. Our playroom is also conveniently located in between the workout rooms so you are also able to hear your child(ren).

What is your playroom like?

Our playroom is a place for creativity and imagination. From playing grocery store to reading to building with blocks, we’ve tried to make sure there is something for everyone. We do not have electronics in the playroom because we feel that there is a limited amount of places that kids can go these days to just play and imagine. We feel that imagination is a huge thing and we want to do what we can to encourage imaginative and creative play.

Is there a caretaker in your playroom?

When the studio was opened in 2014, the goal was to provide a comfortable environment for clients to enhance their health. We understand how uncomfortable it can be to leave your child(ren) with a complete stranger and hope they are taken care of. With that in mind, we created a playroom rather than a nursery. By having closed circuit cameras connected to tv displays in both workout rooms and making sure the playroom is located between them, we have created more of a “home” environment for parents to be in. Parents are welcome to take a break from their workout to check in on their children if needed. We also accommodate babies as well by making sure there is plenty of room by mom or dad to lay out a blanket with some toys. This means that littles who aren’t yet crawling can be right beside you during a workout (in an area of safety of course) or you are even able to hold them during the workout if needed.

Can my kids workout with me at your studio?

For safety reasons, we cannot allow the children to participate in your workouts. While we don’t have a lot of big bulky equipment, workout equipment in general can be dangerous when used incorrectly. We begin training at age 16.  We do encourage children to be active and parents to be active with them which is why we often create “parent and me” workout options for home environments. We believe that when kids are taught to play, they won’t always need to “workout” (or at least not as early). Activity is taught from a young age and the more you can fit play into your day, the better they will be at it.

Can my kids workout with me at home?

Of Course! We still recommend that they don’t use exercise equipment due to the risk of injury that could happen but they usually find it quite fun to do bodyweight exercises right alongside mom or dad. What’s more fun that a  push up or burpee challenge when your kids blow your numbers out of the water? If they see it as fun, then it can lead to longer bouts of activity which will help them develop better exercise habits as grown ups.

Don’t my kids need to workout also?

In this day and age, many, many people work out. In previous generations adults worked and kids played. Exercise is good but it comes in the form of many different options. Our kids more often than not need to learn healthy eating habits and learn to play and be active.
