Hi guys, Kris from Custom Fitness here, your Amarillo personal trainer. Today we’re going to be talking about “making it happen”. If you have any questions about today’s blog, then please give us a call at (806)-322-3188
Have you ever started a new program or something new in your life, and then you get in and feel like it’s the best choice that you have ever made. Then after a day or week or more, you start to feel like you are over your head. You start to feel like maybe it wasn’t the best choice–that maybe it’s all just too hard. But you know what? It all turns out okay. Because you find out that it is or isn’t the right decision for you. And if it is the right decision for you, then you are able to push through.
So a lot of people that come to us, we help them to stair step from where they are at, to where they need to be. The only problem is that we are human. Our brains get in the way. Instead of doing things the way that they have been working, we tend to take in information from friends and online and start to try and do things differently. So when that gets in the way, we stop trusting what we really should trust: the people that have done the research. Whether that be our dentist, our employer, our lawyer, we start to try and take control.
I know that being a type A personality that I can be guilty of this. Daily I have these moments where I know that God is telling me that I need to step back and trust that He is in control, not me.
Sometimes this happens in our services here. Sometimes people feel like they just don’t have control over the situation and they just don’t know what the outcome is going to be, so they try and take control. And then they start to panic because they think that if what they are doing isn’t going to work then nothing is going to be okay.
So the big thing that I want us all to remember is that life is an experiment. So as we experiment, we have to try new things and see if they work. If they don’t, then we change one factor and then we try again. We keep this up until we find the right formula that we need.
So when it comes to nutrition (which is an information overload when you are trying to figure it all out, especially on google), it’s not cookie cutter. Just because your friend lost 20 pounds by doing XYZ plan, doesn’t mean that you are going to get the same results by doing the plan.
Each person’s body is so unique, so you need to find the right program to fit your body at the right time in your life. Because maybe that plan worked for your friend when she was 25, but now that she is 40 it’s not working anymore. Our bodies and our needs change. This is true in exercise, nutrition, and even habits. People need different things at different times, so we tend to stress out about that stuff instead of trusting that we can find the right resource.
To our credit, that comes from the fact that there are so many millions of options out there, so it gets to that point where we really feel like we have tried everything and it’s not working. And when it comes to that point of severe frustration, that’s where it starts to feel like you’re just doing whatever you can to make it work.
Well I can tell you from experience as a personal trainer in Amarillo; when clients come and they are ready and willing to let go of those preconceptions and try something a little more simple, balanced and sustainable, then 99% of the time they see greater results then they would have with the other programs that they have tried in the past. That’s not to say that they didn’t lose weight or find results with those other programs, but whatever they were doing isn’t working now.
Case in point: I had a client come in yesterday that recently joined. They started out towards the beginning of last year on one diet, and then a few months later she went to another one, and every few months she would change it up. Well, that’s all great but she never really lost the weight that she wanted to and she was frustrated. So she came to us back in January and started this process of simplifying, and it was hard. She has so many preconceptions and those were hard to let go, but as she started to let those go, she started to see results. Right now she is down almost 20 pounds and she is loving the changes to her body and her health. This is what you can get from a solid, consistent plan.
One of the things that isn’t taught enough is consistency. So what can you do consistently? And once you answer that question and start to do that thing consistently, then in the end everything is going to be okay.
So, if you are wanting the accountability and help with creating an action plan to see results, or are wanting to someone to help create a workout plan to push you to your greatest potential, then that’s what we’re here for. What we do is work with our clients not just on fitness, but also nutrition.
