Hi guys, Kris from Custom Fitness here, your personal trainer in Amarillo. What are you doing whenever nobody’s looking? I joke with people that 90% of our job as personal trainers as coaches and as health professionals, is accountability. We can give clients the exercises, the nutritional research, the equipment, take them right down to a done-for-you plan. If they don’t do it, then they’re not going to see results from it. Thus, we take on the role of someone to be accountable to. We aren’t around all the time though. Accountability to yourself is key when it comes to reaching your goals or finding success. If you have questions about today’s blog or would like more information on how to become more accountable to yourself, give us a call: 806-322-3188.
The term “accountable” often elicits ideas of tracking food or steps, non-stop phone calls, or Facebook “now or never” type groups. Those approaches can be helpful to start building your support system, but they are missing a crucial part. The thing that these strategies don’t do is foster this responsibility independent of the support system. You have to develop accountability on your own before you can depend on others to keep you going. You must first decide if this is really the change that you want to make.
Too often we jump into changes and think “I’m ready to start changing the way my body looks.” When push comes to shove, we aren’t really ready for the hard stuff at all. Exercising a certain number of days, choosing healthier options at meals, drinking the appropriate amount of water everyday…it requires a lot of effort to stay the course. Others jump feet first into change, really pushing themselves the first two or three weeks. Then a workout is a missed on a meal is binged, and they start to lose traction. Eventually they just stop showing up and can’t figure out what happened. The determining factor of accountability starts with yourself. Are you actually ready to put in the work for the results you want? Do you know what you are actually getting yourself into?
When results don’t appear fast enough or stop appearing at all, our motivation starts to sink. Quick results are a double edged sword. We want our clients at Custom Fitness to see results pretty quickly to build their momentum. Most of our patrons will notice a change in the first two weeks with us then slow down to a more manageable pace from then on. If you are constantly chasing the rapid changes, like crash diets, looking only to drop weight and then be done, you’re more than likely going to be gaining all that weight back after you’ve hit your finish line. Rubber banding from fit to not repeatedly can wreak havoc on your self esteem. While quick results in the beginning are great for getting you pumped up, using tools that only produce fast results will yield your body no benefit.
No benefit meaning… Obviously you would gain the weight back and/or lose the muscle tone you had acquired. The body would start to shift back towards unhealthy stages. The mind gets frustrated and you feel like you don’t want to do it again. Then you lose faith in whether or not another program would work for you. Physiologically your body begins to actually shut down as you yo-yo back and forth. Your body doesn’t really know how to establish a homeostatic balance in that state. The body goes crazy and starts to throw off your everyday cycles. Adrenal glands, thyroid, general hormone production, central nervous system, lymphatic system, etc. Everything goes into a sense of shock. Each time you gain then lose and gain and lose it makes it a little bit harder to get back to where you want to be the next time you saddle up for fitness. Yes, it’s challenge to consistently work towards those changes, but whenever you make a decision to improve yourself through a series of small choices, and you stick with it, you start to change your health for the better.
Research shows that weight gain typically comes from a place within the body that is unhealthy. Imagine if we are constantly working on promoting and enhancing our own health internally to externally. That weight will melt off. The body will shape and tone itself. The body will become healthy. Your physical appearance and self-esteem will take a turn for the better. The metamorphosis starts with you deciding that no matter who’s watching, no matter what’s happening, you are going to do what it’s going to take to get to your goal.
Back to my original question, what are you doing nobody’s looking? Are you the one at the grocery store packing in cookies or ice cream “just this once” because you “deserve it”? Are you the one carelessly doing your workout, if you even did it at all? Or maybe you are the person who got a gym membership just to say that you did, but you haven’t been in weeks because you fell off the wagon. When no one is looking, you aren’t doing what you are supposed to do.
Sound familiar? As a personal trainer, I have seen tons of people exhibit these behaviors. The root cause is that they haven’t committed to the decision 100%. If you are ready, then finding a professional like us at Custom Fitness can really guide you along a rather overwhelming path. We can design a program for you with all the steps you need to achieve the vision you have for yourself. In addition, we provide you the motivation and support on days when yours begins to falter. It all has to start with you. One decision, a strong will, and a desire to succeed. From there, your supporters (family members, friends, co-workers, or a certain personal trainer in Amarillo) can rally around you and push you towards the you, you want to be.
If you’re ready to commit to the new you, right now, and willing to put in the work we have a new session of Down Size starting October 30th. It is a 6 week program and if you lose 15 inches or more in that time span you get a full refund. Working hard during the program gets you all of your money back. That’s a no risk opportunity. Our team of fitness professionals will provide meal plans, nutritional guidance, progress analysis, unlimited workouts, and of course, accountability. We only have 20 spots available in this program. We keep our programs limited to make sure that you have the ability to have that personal one-on-one attention as much as possible. That’s something that puts Custom Fitness leaps and bounds above other facilities in town. We help you get what you need while having a relationship with you. You are a person to us, not just a gym membership.
If you’re interested in Down Size, feel free to give us a call at 806-322-3188 or e-mail us at info@customfitness.biz. October 30 is a little ways off, so if you want to talk to about what you can do in between we would love to talk to you about that too. Contact us and we’ll be happy to get you in for a consultation. No strings attached. Just a chance to sit down to talk and see if we got what you’re looking for. At Custom Fitness, we are YOUR personal trainers in Amarillo, Texas. I hope that the next time that you’re doing something that you probably know will stop you from achieving your health goals, that you’ll stop yourself and realize you can hold yourself accountable. Have a great day!
