Step 1: Think about changing some aspect of your life, body, health, etc.
Step 2: Make a decision to change said aspect
Step 3: Avoid taking action so you can wait until everything in your life is at a “peaceful” place (yeah right), you have all the right equipment/clothes and look/feel a certain way before stepping into that gym.
Step 4: Give into emotional eating because it just wasn’t the right “time” for you to start something and now you don’t think you’ll ever be able to.
Sadly, that’s the way it happens most often.
I have a friend that has always wanted to exercise consistently but has always had an excuse as to why she couldn’t at that moment in time. It ranged between-
- It just isn’t the right time so I won’t be able to go on ___ day at ___ time
- I have _____ to do and just can’t find the time to do anything outside of my trainings
- I feel judged when I can’t do __________ exercise
- I don’t have the right _____________
- My work schedule just changed so I would have to get up earlier…and I just can’t do that
- I have to take my kids to their activities and can’t do anything while I wait for them
I think you get the picture. The truth is that my friend, while very well intentioned never took action because it wasn’t her idea of “perfect” action.
And in her mind, if it wasn’t going to be perfect, it wasn’t worth doing …. Sound familiar?
She felt like if she gave anything less than 100% every moment that she would fail and shouldn’t have tried in the first place.
In contrast, if she had tried (with a positive attitude and an open mind), she might have found out that she could succeed.
On the flip side, if she still did not succeed, she could be proud of the fact that she did try.
So many people are afraid of failure or disappointing themselves or someone else that it prevents them from ever taking action in the first place.
They spend so much time on steps 1 and 4 that it becomes a loop that repeats itself over and over with less and less hope of stopping it.
The one thing that is sure to stop it is to decide to take action. Make something happen whether it’s the perfect time/ setting or not. We would love to help you on your journey, so just reply to this email or give us a call at 806-322-3188.
It only takes a tiny spark to start a fire.
