Hi guys,  Kris from Custom Fitness here, your Amarillo personal trainer. Today we’re going to be talking about health and happiness. This is going to be the last part of this three part series. Now be sure to read part one if you haven’t already at the link here: And as always, if you have any questions about today’s blog then please give us a call at (806)-322-3188

Last time we were talking about the changes that you have to go through for health and happiness. So the third step to becoming health and happy and taking away the myth of that is to focus on the process more than the end goal. I know that’s never what anybody wants to hear, but weight loss is possibly, quite possibly, the worst goal ever.

And if you hear my explanation of that you’re probably gonna agree with me, but you might feel a little astounded that I said it in the first place. Our bodies are fluid. They are always changing, always adapting. Scales, numbers are not fluid. They are set, right? And if we’re not weighing constantly throughout the day to see those changes, then in our minds we weigh one specific number. But as women we actually fluctuate in weight five to ten pounds every single day throughout the day. And I will tell you that you’ll weigh different on a Monday than you would on a Tuesday, even if it’s both at eight o’clock in the morning.

Every moment of our day is different. It depends on how much sleep we’ve had, how much food we’ve eaten, what we’ve drank, how our body’s reacting, if we’ve exercised, if we’ve processed the food that we ate. There’s a million different processes happening in our body. When we only look at weight, all that does it really lead to the feeling of failure. It constantly reapplies that feeling to us as we step on the scale and we haven’t seen the weight loss that we wanna see.

But yet if you’re focused on your nutrition and you’re focused on your exercising, then you’re gonna change the body, right? So if we look at the truth of weight loss as a goal, weight loss is rarely the true nitty gritty of what that goal is. If you boil it down, if you sit there and ask yourself why, and why, and why again, typically it boils down to some sort of self-worth, whether that is to yourself or to others. That it will lead you to feeling happy.

Happiness is a huge thing, isn’t it? And we allow ourselves to feel unhappy so often with the way that our lives are run these days that we act like happiness is this prize, this goal to be won over time and the truth is, you can be happy today. You may not have lost the weight today, but you can be happy today, right? And we can start to accept our bodies and ourselves for who we are and know that yeah, I may not be where I want to be, but I can get there, and that leads to happiness.

So then as you start to, you know, bring the focus off the weight loss and more onto the process you can see that through the process of exercise and nutrition you’re getting stronger, you look better, you have more energy, you might even be in smaller sizes of clothes. And if you’re focusing on that process of consistency over time of doing better thing each day, then those things are gonna be positive attributes to your success.

If you are instead looking at only weight loss, there’s times that I have people come in who are only looking at weight loss and maybe something in their physiology is not allowing them to lose weight at the moment, but maybe they dropped two pants sizes and they still aren’t happy because the scale hasn’t moved.

We have to learn to look at ourselves at an overall aspect rather than in piece by piece because our body does not work piece by piece. It’s all formed by chain reactions. The whole body works together. So we have to make sure and focus on the process of what we’re doing and how we’re consistently being better. Because the truth is, whether you’re looking for weight loss or not, your health and happiness begins with your willingness to take time for what matters, to take out what doesn’t, and to focus on the process. And I guarantee you that when you do that consistently, over time you will reap great rewards.

That is going to wrap up our series on health and happiness! This was a bit of a longer series than we usually do, but I really enjoyed the process of sharing my story and the stories of others so that you at home might believe that health and happiness is not a myth. Honestly, at the end of the day the most important thing that we as people have is our health and happiness, so be sure to take the moments that you can to spend time on your own health and happiness.
