Hi guys,  Kris from Custom Fitness here, your personal trainer in Amarillo. Today we’re going to be talking about results, the “other” 100%.  If you have any questions on today’s blog, or would like to learn more about how how to get the results you want, give us a call at 806-322-3188.

So, what is the “other” 100%? Well, before we talk about the “other” let’s talk about the first. The first 100% equation for getting results is 70% nutrition and 30% exercise. Some people think that the first 100% is trying to outrun bad nutrition. They think that if they workout hard enough that they can continue to keep their bad diet. However, that just can’t be done, because if you are putting the wrong kind of fuel in your body and not burning off those calories, then you can’t achieve your body transformation goals. The real first 100% is the 70/30 equation. But what a lot of people don’t know is that there is another formula altogether.

So the actual action part is the first 100% formula we talked about, and I’ve been a personal trainer in Amarillo for over seventeen years, so I’ve seen a lot of people successfully work this formula, but now let’s think for a moment about what else it takes in order to do that. This comes up a lot, especially during this time of the year. We all know what happens when fall hits and suddenly we don’t have time to take breath until January. During those chaotic months people tend to have a change of mindset, and that’s when things start to really fall apart. A lot of people start to jump back on the bandwagon in January, and they typically start to fall off in October. So that’s about three months where people set their health and wellness aside! They don’t take care of themselves because they’re too busy trying to take care of everyone else.

Now before we get into this next part, I want you to remember that during that time if you’re taking time off, that you are the base of the pyramid for you and your loved ones. Everyone else stacks on top of you. So you are the support for your friends, family, coworkers, etc. And so if you are giving yourself fully to helping out everyone else, then the bottom of that pyramid starts to slowly chip away. If the base goes, then everything on top will also fall. So really the best thing that you can do in times of stress, and I know it’s hard to hear, is to take care of yourself.

That brings us back to our point: what is the other 100%? When you are looking at total wellness and health you’re looking at motivation and mindset. If you are not determined to do something, it is very easy not to do that. If you are not motivated to do something, it is very easy not to do it. So stress comes in during the fall; the holidays are coming, everyone around you is going crazy, you start to think that you don’t have time for yourself and you lose the determination and motivation. Having your mindset shift to trying to take care of people isn’t a bad thing, and I understand that life happens, but many people use this time of the year as an excuse to stop working towards their goals. Now you could do a 5-15 minute workout, you could make better nutrition choices, there are things that can be done to still try and keep you on track.

For this equation, determination is the 70% and motivation is 30%. If you are determined to reach your goal, you are determined and have that goal in mind, but some days you aren’t motivated, that’s going to be okay because you still have that determination which is why it’s such a big part of the puzzle. When you are motivated to do something, you aren’t always determined. So motivation won’t always get you there, but determination will. The combination of the two is even better, so when we are determined and motivated it makes everything better.

Sometimes we have clients during this time of year that get stressed and come in and tell us that they don’t have the motivation. Even as trainers we have times when we get up in the morning and feel that we just can’t do our workouts that day, but we know that our health depends on us getting out of bed and continuing that routine instead of risking falling off the wagon.

So we have the mindset equation and the action equation. Our mindset is 70% determination and 30% motivation, and our action is 70% nutrition 30% exercise. When you put this all together, you have the perfect storm to create the best results possible in the shortest amount of time.

So what do you do whenever you are lacking motivation this time of year? I want you to ask yourself “why”? Why do you want the changes that you want? Most us us have our end goal in mind, but why do you want to get to that end goal? What is the point in this? As you are thinking through that, you might come up with answer #1. When you get your answer, you’re going to ask why for that answer, and you’ll do it about five times to try and get to your final “why?”, and that final one will be the one that means something to you. When you find that deeper purpose, you will find the determination to continue whether you are motivated or not, and you will typically find the motivation to persevere through to that determination.
