Hi guys,  Kris from Custom Fitness here, your Amarillo personal trainer. Today we’re going to be wrapping up the two part series on how “fit” is a lifestyle. Now be sure to read part one if you haven’t already at the link here: And as always, if you have any questions about today’s blog then please give us a call at (806)-322-3188

So, following our tip for accountability in the last post, the next step is to do more with less. If you jump into this whole new fit lifestyle, and you are going to meal prep everyday and go to the gym everyday and do these insane workouts, then you are not going to find time to fit it in. It’s going to be less convenient than it already seems that it is, and it is going to cause you extra stress and frustration which means that it is not a long term solution. So that means that you should be doing more with less.

Think less time at the gym, less equipment to use, maybe you don’t even go to the gym. Maybe you go to a studio like the one we have and work with an Amarillo personal trainer, and then you go and do other workouts at home or the office. There are a lot of different things that you could do, just make sure that it makes sense to you. Doing more with less is good, you don’t need 500 pieces of equipment, you want to make sure that you just have what you need.

And when talking about less time, some wonder how long it will take for them to be working out for them to be seeing progress. And well, it depends on your goals. Strength training takes longer than cardio training and so on. One of the things that I like to talk about though, is metabolic training. Metabolic training is one of the best if you are looking to gain muscle and lose fat. It is really similar to the HIT training (High Intensity Interval training), but it is really just an interval type of training where you are doing cardio and strength training back to back.

The purpose of it is to improve your metabolism and get it up so that your body can be burning fat even when you aren’t exercising. So with the majority of workouts that we do at Custom Fitness is raising your metabolism during the workout, and instead of talking about what you burned during the workout, we actually raise your ability to burn calories over the next 36 hours with the workouts that have been specifically put together for you. We want to make sure that as you do that, you are are refueling your body with the right nutrition so that you can get rid of the extra fat that is there. I find that most of our clients will start to see results in two to three weeks, and over a twelve week period people can lose 15-22 inches which is in the 15-20 pound range.

So most of the clients that we have really enjoy that type of training. And it is really something that you can do in 30 minutes or less with the right program. It’s a matter of having a fast and efficient program, and having a program that is very effective in what it is doing. If you just grab the next best thing, you may be working out less, but you may not be getting the full results. So be sure to check in with a professional and get the right program for you and your goals.

So the next step is to find something that you enjoy, maybe we could go as far as to say that you don’t hate it. You want to find something that you don’t mind doing, something that makes you feel good afterwards. Because if you really hate doing it, then you are never going to see any change, you are never going to push yourself to the right limits, and you won’t ever get to the place that you want to be. When you find something that you enjoy, you can accomplish some amazing things.

I had this client that was with me for about eight years. We worked on nutrition, we worked on exercise, and every time that she would start to make a little bit of progress she would start to mentally and emotionally sabotage herself. She would see this bit of progress and then go out and overeat or do something else to sabotage her results, and this was a constant battle.

This happened when I was still in the early days of my career, so I just couldn’t figure out what was quite the right way to help her out. I have had many experiments like this over the years, I have been a personal trainer for almost two decades. So as we went through the process we finally found a style of workout that she really enjoyed doing. And it was amazing, the minute that she made that connection, those pounds just started to melt off. The emotional issues didn’t come back, the overeating didn’t come back, and that is because she found purpose and joy in what she was doing and she was dedicated to a fit life.

Going through the changes to get to a “fit” lifestyle is going to require dedication and some trial and error. It’s not going to be instagram perfect at first or maybe ever, but over time it will be perfect for you. So go find what works for you, and if you ever need help, then that’s what Custom Fitness is here for.
