Hi guys,  Kris from Custom Fitness here, your Amarillo personal trainer. Today we’re going to be talking about how “fit” is a lifestyle. This is going to be the first part in a two part series, so be on the lookout for part two coming soon. And if you have any questions about today’s blog, then please give us a call at (806)-322-3188

I’m going to start out today by telling you from the start; “fit” is a lifestyle. “Fit” is something that people are constantly seeking, and it is something that people are constantly using their emotions to find. The problem with that is when you are using emotion, rather than solid dedication, then the brain is going to tell you that you really don’t want to do it.

There are days that is works out really great, and maybe that will go on for strands of time. But all of the sudden you get hit with a day where you are just not motivated, and that tends to snowball into more and more days. Once that happens, you’ll be completely off track. So, we have to start understanding that “fit” is more than a workout, “fit” is more than just a good nutrition plan, “fit” is a lifestyle.

How do you get started with the “fit” lifestyle?

Well, again, you kind of have to set the emotions aside. You might feel like you would rather start monday, but honestly today is the day for you to start. So you have to have that dedication, you have to have that decision made of “Today is that day that I am going to do it”.

So first off you need to schedule it into your life, and it isn’t always convenient. It’s not always going to be at the right time, or fit in the right way.

I remember when I first had my kids, I was a runner and i would run at five in the morning, and that didn’t work anymore once I had children at home. So there were other things that I had to do and I had to find other ways and other times that I could still get those workouts in and still eat healthy, but it wasn’t what it used to be. I had to find my new normal.

So as you are looking to change your lifestyle from where you are at now to a new, more fit lifestyle, then there is going to be a new normal, there is going to be some changes that has to occur to make that new normal work.

For this new normal to work, the first thing that i suggest is scheduling your workouts. I would say scheduling them out a week in advance, or at best a month is the best. And you want to make sure that as best you can, you set a time and a day of the week to repeat those workouts. So that way if you are working out every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, then that’s how it’s going to be the next week too. If you have a more chaotic schedule, then at least schedule it a week out. Maybe sit down on Saturday or Sunday and schedule those things in for the next week so that you don’t book something else during your workout. Your workout time is your time. Remember that it is super important to have time just for you to work on your health and your fitness.

The next step is to make sure that you have an accountability partner. It can be your spouse, your friend, your kids, a professional, or even an acquaintance. Just make sure that it is somebody that works well for you and keeps you accountable.

Now remember, this could go really well or really bad. You could pick the perfect person that is going to be there to support you, or you could end up picking someone that nags at you or forgets that they are your accountability partner all together. So it is very important that you pick the right person. When I am choosing an accountability partner, personally, I am going to seek out a professional to make sure that I get what I need. I have tried it too many times with great friends who are wonderful, but they don’t always hold up their end of the accountability bar.

Okay, I’m going to go ahead and end part one here. In this post I was able to get the idea of the “new normal”, and the lifestyle changes that are going to have to be made. I know that it can be intimidating and a bit confusing to start trying to make life changes.
