Hi guys,  Kris from Custom Fitness here, your Amarillo personal trainer. Today we’re going to be wrapping up the two part series on DIY, is it worth the savings? Now be sure to read part one if you haven’t already at the link here: And as always, if you have any questions about today’s blog then please give us a call at (806)-322-3188

Welcome back to our two parter! I hope that you all got a lot of good information out of the first blog, and if you haven’t read that one yet, be sure to go and do that before moving on. Today let’s find out whether or not DIY is right for you….

There’s really two missing elements to this DIY factor. Again, if the DIY is right for you, more power to you, I think that’s great. But, if you’re not that person, if you’re finding that you have trouble sticking to those things there’s really two areas that typically are the problem. Number one is customization. The program is not customized to meet your needs, and a lot of times whether it’s food or it’s exercise it can cause harm. If you’ve ever been doing an online workout and done a lunge incorrectly and it just torn up your knee or your hip, you know what I’m talking about, right? Or you did a diet and all of a sudden you felt sicker than a dog and you couldn’t seem to make it through and it caused all these problems, you know what I’m talking about.

The customization is huge. Your body is unique. It works differently than anybody else’s body and you’ve got to make sure that you are using resources and tools that are appropriate for your unique needs.

Now the second part is accountability. Whether it’s a book program, it’s a gym membership, it’s a video program, whatever it maybe it’s typically missing accountability, right? You have to find your own accountability. When you don’t show up for three or four weeks nobody really calls to check-in on you.

Those are huge issues, because that’s again a part that we condemn ourselves for needing help on, but as humans we need accountability. We need coaching. We need help. There’s a lot of areas that you are extremely smart in that you know the ends and out of every part of it. Maybe health and fitness is it, but maybe it’s not.

I’ve even had clients that come to me that are dieticians, that are personal trainers that are health coaches, they know the information, but they haven’t found the right fit for them. As we go through and we customize that to them we’re able to reach their goals. Case in point, a few years back, we had a client come in, her name was Holly. She was a personal trainer and she had worked with several clients in the past on helping them lose weight, but over a 10 to 12 year period she had 10 pounds on her that whole time that she couldn’t lose. She wanted to lose it desperately and she had tried everything from counting macros to changing her diet to killing herself working out.

Man, that girl was doing everything. We brought her in, we simplified, we customized and within four weeks she had lost the 10 pounds. I don’t say that to be bragging about it or to show that it’s a miracle plan or anything like that. It’s that when we get the right pieces that work with your body it all make sense to your body and then it does what it needs to do. So that was 10 extra pounds that she didn’t need to be carrying around, that her body was okay losing. And it did it very quickly, once we found the right pieces for her, and we quit complicating the system with other unnecessary things, whether that be extra supplements, or the wrong foods, or not enough sleep, or not the right exercise, or too much exercise. There’s a lot of factors in there.

We want to make sure that whatever it is that you’re doing that it’s done right for you. Remember that everything that you do is going to require either your time or your money. DIY is mostly going to require your time, right? You’ve got to invest your time, make sure that you have everything that you need. But, on the other side, if you don’t know how to do that or that’s not of interest to you to learn all of that and create this new knowledge base then using your money to hire a coach can be one of the best things that you can do.

That is going to wrap up our series on DIY and if it is worth it. Now I hope that you all learned something that will benefit you, and I hope that you found something useful in this series.
