Last time we were talking about juicing and detoxes. Today we’ll be learning about supplements.

So, supplement packages… I’ve heard of people jumping on the bandwagon with all of that- trying to get their supplements in and start this new regimen. And that’s great, supplements can be great the problem comes when you use them as you diet instead of filling gaps in you diet, which is what they were originally intended for.

Some tend to do only shakes and pills all day long, and very minimal food which can be dangerous for your body. Yes, you get in food, but it’s nothing like you would be otherwise. So really be sure that you aren’t overdoing it, and that you’re getting the appropriate amount of food to balance out your supplements.

The other thing is to make sure that the supplements that you’re using are quality. You don’t want to be getting something without correct third party testing, or something with added fillers as opposed to just being a quality ingredient.

So these are some things to look out for when it comes to supplements. Can you lose weight with this fast? Yes, but is that weight going to stay off? The majority says no. When you get off those supplement packages, you’ll gain that weight back. You haven’t taught yourself the habits on how to sustain weight loss, but rather used something that was manmade to create that weight loss. There’s no long term success without a real change and commitment.

As a personal trainer in Amarillo, I get a lot of clients that I help to get off those supplements through training and nutrition counseling. This way they can still be able to sustain the success they’ve seen and learn how to keep that success long term.

So when you use something as a splint basically, to hold you up this whole time, you take that away and you have to learn how to stand on your own. You’ll have to learn how to build that habit back in.

So as you can see, there are a lot of options to lose weight fast. And again, january is going to bring that out in everybody and it will bring it out in your mind too. It doesn’t matter what size you are. In your twenties you think “Well if I only looked like this…” and in your thirties you want to look like you did in your twenties, and the cycle is never ending. It just all goes with the old saying of the grass being greener on the other side. And the thing is, the grass is never greener on the other side. It’s greener when you water it and take the time to work the earth.

And so if you think about your weight loss in strategies like that; where the work you put in is going to produce a better outcome, then you start to think “Maybe losing fat as fast as I think I need to isn’t as important as losing it as healthily as I need to.” Because if you lose it in a healthy way it doesn’t mean that it’s that much slower, it means that it’s slow enough that your body can actually catch up with it, maintain it, and then you have a lifestyle change instead of a quick fix.

I’ve never heard anyone in January say that they just want to lose fifteen pounds until February and then want to gain it all back. People want to lose it and have it gone. The problem is that we’re so impatient these days that we just can’t take the understanding of taking a little more time with it will make it more worthwhile.

So keep that in mind as you start to make your choices for what you’ll be doing this January. I know that you’ve been thinking about it and asking how you can be better. Well asking how you can be better also need to include how you can be healthier. And being healthier includes thinking through the options that you’ve got and making the best choice for you.
