Now be sure to read part one if you haven’t already at the link here: And as always, if you have any questions about today’s blog then please give us a call at (806)-322-3188
Welcome back to part two of this series. Hopefully you read the last part, we were talking about the stresses of life. I’ve been stepping into the role of stage mom recently, and it’s been quite the change, and like everyone else, sometimes I get off track. Everyone does, no one is perfect. There are going to be times in your life where it’s just not going the way that it needs to be, but then there is the decision of whether or not to get back on. You have to be intentional about getting back on track, it’s not just going to fall back into place.
We think about everything every day and there’s just sometimes that we’re like “Man, if I could just do something that I don’t have to think about. Since I’m supposed to know all this stuff about health and wellness, then I just won’t think about it and I’ll just be able to go through the motions, I’ll follow this diet plan, or whatever it is.” The problem with that is when you’re not being intentional, you’re not listening to your body, your body is trying to tell you whether or not it likes something, whether or not this is working, how things are happening, and we’re not listening. When we’re not being intentional about our exercise, it’s much easier to get hurt or to at the very least be ineffective with what we’re doing.
When we start to be intentional about things, we start to see bigger changes happening and that again from the inside out is the most important. If we can focus on changing the inside of us and getting that part healthy, the outside will re-morph in shape. It’s just the fact that typically weight gain, fat gain is coming from some sort of sluggish system within the body that we don’t have something working right.
Typically, that’s because of our stress level, our sleep level, our hydration level, our nutrition level, somewhere in the realm that we’re not giving the body what it needs. Starting today, instead of taking that leap out of this pit that we’ve dug ourselves into, we want to start to make small changes, and that first small change is to be intentional about the choices that you’re making every day and to be understanding of the fact and take responsibility for the fact that those choices are your choices to make.
You are either making a good choice or a bad choice, a good choice or a less good choice during the day each day. As you make those choices, you’re setting yourself up for either future success or future failure. As we’re making those choices each day, we’re going to think about our ultimate goals and that’s where it’s so important to have those goals written down somewhere that you can look at them and think “Okay, this is what I’m working towards.” Maybe, it’s on a sticky note on your bathroom mirror, maybe it’s on a sticky note in your car, maybe it’s a picture of you from before. Whatever it may be, you choices need to lead your goals, so setting those goals then building small habits to reach those goals and maybe that habit today again is intentional.
Focus on what you’re doing and maybe next week it’s on saying yes to the right things and no to the wrong things. Maybe the week after that it’s yes to pre-scheduling, making sure that we’re pre-planning our foods and our workouts and no to chaos. There’s a lot of small choices that we make every day and if you start to make those choices more positive towards your goals, you have no other road to be on other than the one that leads you to those goals. If you need a little help setting goals, understanding how to take these larger goals and break them down into small steps, I’ll be happy to do that with you. That’s what we do with our clients is we work through small habit changes throughout their lifestyle to build them into better health and wellness.
That is going to wrap up our series on how all of the little things add up to big change. I’m glad that I got to do this series, it’s definitely something that has been on my mind lately and it’s nice to get it out there.
Sometimes something as obvious as being intentional really isn’t obvious to us in the moment. It’s intent and it’s effort to keep on track or to get yourself back on track, and it can seem like a daunting task. I hope that now you can see that perfection isn’t the goal, but making the little changes is what we’re aiming for. The little things really do add up.
