Quality vs. Quantity … in every situation Part 2 by Custom Fitness: Amarillo Personal Trainers

Hi guys,  Kris from Custom Fitness here, your Amarillo personal trainer. Today we’re going to be wrapping up the two part series on quality vs. quantity in every situation. Now be sure to read part one if you haven’t already at the link here: And as always, if you have any questions about today’s blog then please give us a call at (806)-322-3188

So in the last blog we were talking about calories. Calorie counting isn’t as exact as a lot of people would like to think. I know that we wish we could eat 1200 calories of pie, call it a day and feel good, but that’s not how it works. So today i’m going to be talking more about nutrition.

So if you’re eating for calories instead of nutrition, then a lot of times you’re eating to fill yourself rather than fuel yourself. That fuel is important. You have to have fuel for energy, you have to have fuel for your workouts, you have to have it for your daily life. So in order to be able to do all of the things that you need and want to do, you need to make sure that the quality of food that you’re taking in is of the utmost importance to you.

When you look at your food you need to ask yourself about the quality. Now, does that mean that everything has to be organic and non GMO? Well, you could get there, but take baby steps. I’m not here to strong arm you on anything, I just want to open up your eyes to the fact that 100 calories of ice cream has a completely different nutrient profile than 100 calories of vegetables.

So I want you to really look at what the value is of the fuel that you’re giving your body and what the quality is. You need to ask yourself these questions to be able to do the things that you need to do during the day. If you really want you day to happen in the way that it needs to, you have to make sure that you fuel yourself right.

Maybe you want to change your body; lose body fat, gain muscle tone, start to lean down and trim up, etc… If you want to do that then you have to give your body the fuel that it needs in order to do that. 100 calories of ice cream is not going to get you to where you need to go, even if it’s only 100 calories.

You know those little 100 calorie packs of cookies? Well you see that and it kind of tricks us. We see that 100 calorie sticker on the bag and think that treating yourself to one or two of those everyday isn’t so bad. Well if you are eating those everyday, over time you will start to see some weight gain from that. Again, this is only giving you empty nutrients and empty calories. So you want to be sure that what you’re eating is fueling yourself for the day and for what your ultimate goals are. So rather than thinking that you should change your goal, you need to be thinking about changing your food and exercise so that it works towards your goal.

The last thing that we are going to be talking about is lifestyle. How are you going to make quantity vs. quality match up in your lifestyle? Well, to start with, you want to make every hour count.

Have you noticed now that whenever you go out to a restaurant that families will sit down for dinner, and they all have their phones out and their heads down. They don’t interact or talk with each other. This is a real big pet peeve of mine to see how many moments of the present are being completely missed. And these are the people that later on are going to be thinking how much they wished they could have had more time with their loved ones and friends.

It’s important to take the time in the present to be with people and not waste any time. So I want to tell you to be present wherever you’re at. Be present in that moment and take the time to focus on what’s important to you.

In this world, health is important. So be present enough in the moment to realize how important your health is, and to take that into your hands. Understand that your health is worth more than a crash diet. Your health is worth more than a supplement package that you’re just going to get stuck on and you can’t feel free from. It’s worth more than your family’s suffering because you’re out sick all of the time, or you’re injured and you can’t do anything. So really take the time to think about how important that health factor is and be present in that moment enough to take some action on it.

So that is going to wrap up our series on quality vs. quantity in every situation.

I want you to make sure that when you are making choices in you life that affect something as precious as you health, that you are taking the time and initiative to do what you can to pursue quality. Maybe you decide that you want to find that quality in a personal trainer. Maybe you decide to go a different route. Either way, be sure to be doing what you know is best for your situation.
