Home program, gym membership or invest in a coach? Which is the best value for your time and money? Part 1 by Custom Fitness: Amarillo Personal Trainers

Hi guys,  Kris from Custom Fitness here, your Amarillo personal trainer. Today we’re going to be talking about home programs, gym memberships, or investing in a coach and which is the best value. A home program, gym membership, or a coach? So which is the best value for your time and money? Because we all know that everything in life either takes you time or your money.

Time and money are things that are very valuable to us. So you want to make sure that with whatever you’re doing, it gives you the best value and that you’re receiving everything that you need to receive.

This all ties in with value, because we’ve kind of taken the word “value” and turned into “finances”. So value to most people means less money, but value to me means that i’m getting everything and more of what I need out of the small amount of money that I’m spending.

So yes, money does come into that, but there’s more to it than that. You have to make sure that you’re getting something of high quality and right things for your money.

 

So when it’s time to start transitioning into better health and fitness habits, what do you really need?

Well if you look from the pricing standpoint that we just talked about, then it seems extremely simple. $10 a month, $5 a month, whatever it may be, you look for what you can do from spending as little as possible but still being able to reap the rewards. However, when you consider the big three things that are what it truly take to change your body and your health, then the simple answer of money doesn’t seem as simple anymore.

 

So what are the three things?

Well, through all my years of experience being a personal trainer in Amarillo, these are the things that I find that people need the most when it comes to body transformation or health transformation. You need a nutrition and exercise plan that is effective enough to get results, but is also simple and realistic enough to be able to maintain for a lifetime. Because what is the point of getting results over the next month if you’re just going to lose all of those results over the next three months? There’s no point to it. Your time was wasted, your money was wasted, and you probably went through a lot of stress that you didn’t want to go through. So you need something that’s effective, but is also simple and realistic in order to maintain that.

 

The second thing is accountability.

You need accountability to really stay on track with your new habits. We all know how crazy life can be. I’m sure you have kids going in every direction, or business meetings everyday, or general life craziness. So in order to start something new and actually have it be successful, you have to be accountable to it. So you have to have some sort of accountability to be able to enforce those new habits.

 

Third is goal tracking and progress measurements.

You need this in order to keep you motivated, dedicated, and most importantly, moving forward.

So too often we start to see ourselves moving back from those goals because we don’t really stay motivated, we don’t stay dedicated to what we’re doing, things start to feel really hard, and then life gets in the way and we stop. If you can have that goal tracking, and that progress measurement to be able to move forward and stay dedicated and motivated, then that will help you to get more value out of whatever it is that you’re doing.

 

So again, talking about that value, we’re discussing what kind of value you’re going to get in these options of home program, gym membership, or trainer. So let’s look into those and really see how those three needs fit into your three options. Because really when it comes to health and fitness, those are the three options. There really isn’t too much else that is on the table that most people would choose to do.

 

So how does that fit in? Well, with a home program what do you get? You get videos, variety in your exercises… but what do you not get?

You typically get very little to no sustainable nutrition plan. A lot of the time they will have a nutrition plan, but it’s not something that they can sustain for very long. So really you can only do it for a short time before you’re done with it.

You get no accountability through the program. So really it’s up to you to find that accountability.

And there’s typically not very much on the side of goal tracking and progress measurements. They may suggest that you use a tape measurer and get your weight, but typically it’s not enough to keep driving you forward. You don’t really see the results on paper and that can keep you from being motivated.

You also get very little socialization, and very little time away from home. Whenever you’re doing home workouts, being at home can be a problem within itself.

Just the fact that you’ve got this plan of what you’re going to do, and it seems great in your mind. Then when it gets to it, the laundry needs to get done, there’s phone calls that you need to make, kids are screaming in your ear, and next thing you know it’s dinner time and you have to go make something. Sometimes it can be really hard to do things at home.

 

I’m going to go ahead and end part one here and continue the next blog starting off with the second option: the gym membership.
